Teeth Whitening

Dr. Aldridge here at Oasis Dental can help you feel confident and beautiful with a cosmetically enhanced smile in no time. We offer a wide range of cosmetic procedures designed to bring your smile a new life, and one of the most commonly utilized is teeth whitening. While there are whitening products on the market that our patients often try at home, getting it done in an office by an experienced professional is always the safest route. Call us today for more information on what we can do to make your smile as radiant as you have been dreaming of.

What is Teeth Whitening?

WhiteningOver the years, our teeth take quite a beating. What we eat and drink, and how we use our mouths for some other purposes, can have quite the effect on our teeth’s shine. In fact, there is a wide range of foods and drinks that can stain teeth, turning them a less than satisfying shade of yellow or even brown. These include tea, wine, coffee, and darkly pigmented foods like berries, among others. Smoking is a habit of more than a billion people across the globe, and it drastically impacts the appearance of your teeth. It changes their color along with dramatically affecting their health. Teeth whitening is a great way to combat this gradual color diminishment as life goes on. We use a bleaching agent to lift stains from the surface of your teeth, bringing them several shades lighter. This is a cosmetic enhancement that gives our patients more confidence and pride in their smiles.

How Does It Work?

In-office tooth whitening is the safest way to whiten teeth. There are other options, but bleach can be very harmful to teeth if used irresponsibly or incorrectly. Our experienced professionals can ensure no damage comes to you or your teeth. This option also provides the most rapid results. At-home whitening kits take several treatments to work while you can walk out with teeth up to six shades whiter with a single visit to our office.

The first thing we will do is determine which teeth are visible when you smile. This will be our main target area. From there, we will paint a material over your gums to protect them as the process continues. A bleaching gel (which contains hydrogen peroxide) is then brushed over the aesthetic area or the area which shows when smiling. This is left there for the next 15–30 minutes. Once this has been washed off, we may apply another coat for another 15–30 minutes to achieve maximum lifting. We may use an intense light to activate the bleach on one, both, or neither of these treatments. When the treatment is complete, the teeth will be cleaned, the material over your gums will be removed, and you will be set to go!
