Dental Implant Restoration

Here at Oasis Dental, we know that even the best of us have problems sometimes, and with dental work, it is no different. Dr. Aldridge is an excellent dentist and may be able to help you get back on your feet with a great new implant in no time, but life happens sometimes, and we have to do the best with what we have. If you find yourself stuck with a complication after you get a Dental Implant, we can help you feel better in no time.

What Could Go Wrong?

ImplantsNo medical or dental procedure is absolutely 100% risk-free, and with dental implants, that fact still stands. 95-98% of implants are deemed successful. However, what about that other 2+ percent? That’s when it can get a little complicated. There are a couple of reasons that an implant could fail. The first and one of the more common reasons for implant failure is failed osseointegration. This means, in simple terms, that the implant did not fuse properly with your bone. This can happen for any number of reasons, from bone density being inadequate to improper use of anesthesia at the time of the operation. It can also happen due to smoking inhibiting the healing process.

An implant can also fail if not properly cared for. If you do not care for your implant after receiving it, your chances of developing an infection skyrockets. This can cause a painful reaction in the socket where the implant was placed. Your body then rejects it as it fights off the infection. This is true for smokers whose immune system is significantly weakened since their risk of infection is so much higher than the average persons. You may also experience problems if your nerves or gum tissue were damaged in the operation, which can lead to chronic pain, tingling, or numbness in the area of the implant. We may have to remove it if that is the case.

What Can We Do?

There are a couple of steps that we can take should there be an implant failure or if your body for some reason rejects it. First, we can try again. After you have been given enough time to heal, we can try a new implant. This may require you to undergo a bone graft, however, even if you didn’t need one before. If your implant was rejected due to a titanium allergy, we could also use a different material. If the issue is simple enough to be repaired while it is still in your mouth, such as a slight shift in the healing process, we may be able to install a splint or support of some kind to repair it. This is usually only possible with two-piece titanium implants, however.

If you are worried that there is something wrong with your Dental Implant, whether you have had it for days or years, be sure to give Dr. Aldridge a call today. Oasis Dental wants to make sure that you are happy and healthy, and would be more than happy to make the necessary adjustments to restore your implant to its best possible condition and function.
A better kind of dental practice for your entire family.
