What We Can Do to Help with Your Bad Breath

What We Can Do to Help with Your Bad BreathHuman beings are social creatures. We often need to communicate and speak with others to feel a sense of connection. However, this becomes quite problematic for someone with bad breath or as it's commonly known in the dental world, halitosis. Bad breath might be an issue because of a medical condition or simply because of the lifestyle you lead.

What Causes Bad Breath?

Most people suffering from perpetual bad breath will want to cover the issue with quick fixes such as mint-flavored gum, mouthwash, and so forth. However, we must find the cause of the problem to cut it from the root. Here are some of the causes of halitosis.

Dental problems such as gum disease and cavities are a primary culprit and cause bad breath. Since these conditions create pockets of bacteria that a toothbrush can't reach, the bacteria grow and causes the bad breath.

Dry mouth is a lack of sufficient saliva. Saliva is essential when it comes to keeping your mouth healthy. People whose mouths don't produce enough saliva often find themselves with bad breath closely identical to morning breath. This is mostly because food particles and unwanted leftovers aren't washed down. A dry mouth is caused by certain medical conditions, medications, and drug use.

Our lifestyle can contribute heavily to having bad breath. People who smoke a lot or drink too much can have bad breath. Smokers often develop gum disease, which can contribute to halitosis.

Treating Halitosis

To properly treat this condition, you need to find its root cause. If the problem lies with dental issues, then we can take the right steps in treating the problem, which will also automatically take care of the bad breath. Issues with dry mouth can be solved by addressing the cause of the dry mouth. When necessary, we can prescribe some medication to assist in saliva production. Otherwise, brushing and flossing your teeth keenly and regularly will take care of the issue. If there are places you can't reach with the two, then antibacterial mouth wash should do the trick in killing those pesky odor-producing bacteria.

A better kind of dental practice for your entire family.
